New 06 Jan 2011 #1 XP Mode hangs when trying to shut down I've got Win XP Mode running in Windows 7 Pro, and it's hanging up on "shutting down the virtual machine". The XP Mode window has closed, but the little status bar hasn't disappeared yet. It's been 4 hours and it's not going anywhere. When I open the Virtual Machine folder, it shows as "Running". In worst case you need to reinstall XP Mode, but for instance I have had XP Mode to "crash" like this a few times and the only thing that has happened is that next time XP Mode asks if I want to start in Safe Mode because Windows was not not closed properly.As in any other computer, it is important to find out why this happened to avoid it happening again. Fun I hit ctrl+alt+del and brought up the task manager. only 17 processes were running and for more fun I ended the explorer.exe process then started it again. WHOOOSH BANG, icons and task bar appear. BUT that's all they did, I can open programs, but they will not run. The second I click on them to do anything they freeze and that lovely little post (not responding) shows up on them. I have a feeling I have a very nasty something or rather that may / may not have corrupted my explorer.exe file and extensions?
