Kroger Scan, Bag, Go Program - Bag

In a clear effort to fend off Amazon’s new artificial intelligence-powered store, Kroger announced plans Wednesday to debut similar technology at its branded stores including Ralphs supermarkets in Southern California.Dubbed “Scan, Bag, Go,” the technology allows customers to use a wireless handheld scanner or a Kroger-created app on their mobile devices to scan and bag groceries as they go from aisle to aisle. The technology, created in-house, allows shoppers to download digital coupons, review weekly sales, and keep tabs on their grocery total.Ralphs parent company, Kroger, challenges Amazon with ‘scan and go’ shopping technology. Eventually, shoppers will be able to pay for the groceries directly through the app, allowing them to avoid waiting in a checkout lane, the company said.Kroger said it plans to test Scan, Bag and Go in 400 stores. Of the 191 Ralphs stores in Southern California, about 30 markets are expected to take part in the initial roll out, Ralphs spokeswoman Myeisha Gamiño said.A store in Studio City will be the first to get the technology in late February, followed by another In Redondo Beach in March. Some Orange County stores also will get Scan, Bag and Go, but the locations have not been revealed.Kroger’s new scan and go service, not surprisingly, comes a week after the debut of Amazon Go. The e-commerce giant’s first brick-and-mortar store offers a similar self-serve experience. However, Amazon Go shoppers don’t have to scan groceries. Shoppers, instead, scan their smartphone with the Amazon Go app at a turnstile when they walk in. As they select groceries, the app automatically keeps track of their virtual basket. No scanning. As shoppers leave the store, which some have joked feels like shoplifting, the app automatically charges your Amazon account. No checkout necessary.Scan, Bag, Go is part of the company’s overall strategy to “accelerate the adoption of new technologies in our stores,” Mary Ellen Adcock, Kroger’s group vice president of retail operations, said in a statement.Kroger said Scan, Bag, Go will be available at select locations in Southern California (Ralphs), Atlanta, Ohio, Dallas, Houston, Kentucky, Michigan and Nashville.Of the traditional markets in Southern California, which include Albertsons and Stater Bros., Ralphs has been one of the few to maintain self-checkout lanes. Ralphs has also stepped up its partnership with Instacart, offering one-day grocery delivery. Other Kroger-owned markets also offer curbside pickup through ClickList.“With every new product, service and technology integration, Kroger is redefining the customer experience and reimagining the store of the future,” Chris Hjelm, Kroger’s executive vice president, said in a statement.Providing grocery shoppers convenience and personalized experiences has become critical to survival in the age of Amazon, DoorDash and Postmates. Last summer, Walmart expanded its test of curbside pickup to more than two dozen stores in California, including a store in Foothill Ranch.Amazon Go, combined with the company’s Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service, is a major disruptor in the supermarket

Connect to the Giant-Eagle-Guest Wi-Fi network in a participating store.2. Scan your Advantage Card. We require permission to use the camera on your phone to scan your purchases as you shop.3. If you have weighted items, use the Scale Station in Produce or Bulk Items or go to the checkout lane and weigh your items on the scale. 5. Scan the barcode on the Pay Station to transfer your mobile order and check out. 새로운 기능 bug fixes and improvements 평가 및 리뷰 Could be great, but... The problem is they did not fully implement this. I go through the store, I get to check out, and there’s only one scan pay and go register. I actually found a quicker to go through this self checkout line than to wait in line at the Scan Pay & Go, which is supposed to be faster. Either get some more check out stations, or better yet make it so that you can check out direct from the phone So you don’t even have to stop at a silly checkout station.Update: I have used this app some more and while I did have one visit where it definitely saved me time, it’s still a rickety experience. There’s a whole chance of audit, like extra bag search at the airport. This is where you get flagged, you have to wait for “assistance” and they go through your order to make sure you’re not stealing. Which I could understand if you flag me once, maybe twice to ensure I know how to use the system without committing a misdemeanor. But I have been flagged three times now in a short span of use. Maybe consider linking audits to giant eagle accounts so the system knows who has been checked as a good user? Frustrating to just stand there watching folks use the self checkout while you wait for someone to make sure your two frozen pizzas are, in fact, two frozen pizzas. Works Great For Me After using this app 3 times now without a hitch, I’m not sure where these bad reviews are coming from. I love that. Have cashiers admire how much money I am able to save with a few extra minutes of effort. So there we go – the magic of price matching! On to step two … the Savings Catcher!Another program Walmart has instituted is their Savings Catcher program. When you’re done shopping, enter your receipt info at (it only takes a minute), or download the Walmart app on your smartphone and scan the barcode at the bottom of your receipt (even faster). That’s it! Within a few days, your receipt will have been compared to the sales ads in your area, and if any of the stores have a lower advertised price than what you’ve paid, they credit the difference back to your account! You can cash it out for a Walmart gift card.Um, so Kimber, if the Savings Catcher program is so simple, why am I going to bother price matching?Well, good question. My simplest answer: Because it might not catch everything. Remember the example about the oranges? If my Aldi sold a 3 pound bag of oranges, and I bought several pound of loose oranges, my Walmart would honor “3 pounds @ $2” as a valid price. But if I bought 5 pounds of loose oranges, the Savings Catcher would probably miss it, since they’re comparing it to the advertised 3 pound bag.The Savings Catcher app is still an awesome backup, though! Sometimes you might not notice an item for sale in your grocery store ads. You might not have access to sale fliers for every single store in your local area. Or you might end up making a last-minute trip to the store and you don’t have time to scan your ads. In that case, the Savings Catcher is an excellent backup! So here’s a summary: Before you go to Walmart, find

I can scan my produce as I pick it out then take it all with me to weigh at the convenient stations in the produce section. I feel that the app is easy to understand and navigate. All it took is for me to scan my Advantage Card once and it has saved that for all of my trips. Connecting to the in store WiFi is easy and does not seem to pose a security threat to me because all you are passing to and from the network are barcodes and produce weights. Your credit card is still processed at the checkout terminal after you have scanned the terminal barcode and your phone uploads your items to the system and closes the app out. I have also never waited in line to use the checkout lane. This may be because there are 2 terminals in the store I shop at but I also think it is because the checkout process is so fast. I also love how I can bag my items the way I want them bagged in the store. I also love using my phone instead of the store provided scanners because I am kinda a germaphobe and like using my phone instead (mostly because other people don’t touch it). Overall, I love the app and the freedom it provides me. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Problems in app and in-store rollout The app offers little instruction about how to use it in the store. And what signage there is in the store is inadequate. The first department you enter in the store is Produce and this department is the most problematic for app usage. Apparently there are weighing stations in the department but they are hard to find and not clearly identified as being there for the Scan Pay & Go app. The Produce department doesn’t post the PLU numbers on the pricing signs for unmarked produce (I’m looking at you, green onions) and there is no signage on the shelf directing an app user toward the nearest station. Given the above problem, I expected instructions to be present in the app. They are not. There is no produce lookup in it and no suggestion to go find a weighing station somewhere else in the Produce section. The app is a bare bones scanning tool with no sophisticated functionality. Also, users can’t pay
